Hindhead Golf Club
Monday 7th August 2017
Nearly 300 of the country's top amateur golfers, including three from Hindhead, played at The Berkshire in the English Amateur Championship.
With scores of 65 and 67, David Corben qualified in second place for the matchplay stage. With the cut falling at level par over the two rounds club champion Cameron Phillips missed out by 2 shots after getting caught in the worst of the Wednesday weather. Tom Spreadborough (68, 75) made it through after an anxious wait to knock-out round 1, where he lost a close match 1 down to Julian Wood (Hallamshire GC).
David played Robin Williams (Peterborough Milton GC) on the Thursday afternoon in round 2. A strong back nine saw David win 4&2.
David's last 32 match against Gian-Marco Petrozzi (Trentham) saw him lose narrowly on the 19th hole.
The Championship was won by Todd Clements (Baintree GC).
